Does anyone here know what red mark, green mark or white mark means on
nissan fuel injectors?

3rd gen Maxima replacement struts

I believe it’s time to replace my 94 GXE’s front struts after 114k miles.
(non-sonar)
What is a good brand/type to use if not the Nissan factory struts?
I don’t want a "performance" ride (i.e. stiff or rough), I just want like
factory or maybe a slight bit firmer.

K/N filter too thick to fit – how?

I bought a K/N filter and was trying to install it on
97 Mercury Villager (I believe this is same as Quest),
but could not fit it since the rubber rim was too thick
for the air filter housing. I spent ~3 hours and finally
had to put back the old one. If you had the same experience
and any idea, I appreciate it.

TIA,

Donglok

Smoke!

I’ve got a 2001 Maxima with 17000 miles on it. Needless to say it
doesn’t get driven very much. Yesterday I took it out for the first time in
a while and drove about 30 minutes on the interstate  to a friends house for
Easter. Drove back and put the car in the garage. Started it today and a
large puff of smoke came out of the tail pipe. Never did that before. What
could this be from?

97 Nissan Sentra fails emission test, pls help

The car failed to start a month ago. And it was started again by
spraying some starting fluid. However, it failed the emission
inspection. Reason: Oxygen sensor not ready, EGR not ready, Catalyst
not ready. The ECM does not have any error code. When I check the
ignition timing with OBDII scan tool, it reads 63 BDTC from ECU when
idle. Using timing light ignition timing is unstable during idle.
However, it become 0-9 BTDC when rev engin to over 1000 rpm. The
specified ignition timing should be 8 BTDC. I checked the engine
coolant temp sensor, throttle position sensor,  camshaft position
sensor, changed the oxygen sensor. Nothing corrected. I then checked
the crankshaft position sensor. It turns out that the crankshaft
position sensor does not receive any voltage (Should be 5 volt
according to the Haynes repair manual). So, I assumed the ECM has a
problem. But the problem still exists after I replace the ECM. Any
suggesionts? thanks

Is the 2005 Nissan Quest an acquired taste?

While our 2000 Odyssey is in the shop, we’re living with a free rental
car provided by the dealer.  It’s a 2005 Nissan Quest with only 3000
miles on it.  Ordinarily, I’d be savoring my chance to drive such a new
and powerful vehicle over our Odyssey that’s been around the block quite
a bit.  But oh my, the number of issues I have with the car:

1. Gas mileage is simply horrible.  I’m guessing we’re getting 15-18 mpg
in a 50/50 mix of expressway driving and typical short trip suburban
driving.  You can almost watch the gas guage drop on it.

2. Why are such key instruments as the speedometer in the MIDDLE of the
dash, so the driver has to turn his head 45 degrees to see them?  It’s
really odd at night, having a black area straight in front of me where
I’d expect the backlit instrument panel to be.

3. The horizontally-oriented climate control and audio panel is just
weird.  Plus, the area it sticks out of takes up a lot of key space.

4. Because the "pod" (for want of a better word) with the audio and
climate controls sticks out so far, it’s a major risk to attempt to
insert a CD into the player while driving.  I can’t even see the slot
for the player because of the awkward way it’s positioned.

5. The rear hatch door opens so high, and closes so hard, that my wife
has a great deal of difficulty closing it.

It’s just a loaner, and we’ve only had it for five days.  I’m wondering
if my observations above are shared by others.  And does the overall
experience with the car improve over time?  Although the car feels like
it’s well-built, it’s the most nonintuitive car I’ve ever used, and
seems like it wasn’t designed with much foresight.

how does my o2 sensor work?

My 93 Altima has 2 o2 sensors.  I noticed that
the one before the cat converter was unplugged.
Would this cause any problems?  There was no
check engine light.

Also, now that I have plugged it
back in, should I notice any performance or
fuel economy change?

Are warped rotors considered "worn" for warranty purposes

I have a 2003 Maxima.  At about 17,000 miles I took the car into the dealer
complaining of vibration when using the brakes.  I was told that the front
rotars were warped and had to be turned.  I questioned whether the rotors
might be defective as I had had two previous Maximas with over 40,000 miles
and never had any brake problems.  The service rep said that brakes were
considered a "wear" item by Nissan and were not covered by the warranty.  I
paid to have the rotors turned but the vibration is back at 27,000 miles.
The service rep said that there was still enough metal left to turn them
again if I wanted or I could get new front brakes for $400 – still claims
that Nissan won’t cover it.  I’m inclined to have the brakes replaced but
don’t think I should have to pay.  I looked at the warranty and it says that
Nissan won’t replace "worn" brake parts.  It seems to me that warping is not
normal wear and that Nissan should pay for the replacement of my brakes.
Anyone agree?  If so, do I have a chance of getting Nissan to cover it?

Thanks
John
