I installed an ’84 instrument cluster in my ’82 PU, and just bought a
factory tach.
I plugged it in with the factory plug, but I know there is a sensor
somewhere in
the engine compartment. Can anyone help me in this dept? I just need to
know
where or what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

every electronic tach I’ve ever seen gets its signal from either the coil
(ign system) or the computer. no sensor on that car that I know of. sure
wiring is the same? even if plug is, wire positions etc. might be different
from 82-84. japs are notorious for making cross year swapping difficult…

Over tightening the lugs will cause a rotor to warp.

From what I understand, turning a rotor isn’t exactly good either.
YOu turn the rotor, and you have less metal to absorb and disapate
the heat. Once the rotor is warped, its hards hard to "unwarp" it
by machining. Did you happen to get aftermarket wheels or brake
dust shields? A "closed" wheel will keep more of the heat in as
well as those brake shields.

I went ahead and loosened, then re-tightened the lugs to the manual’s
specs.
And I thought I could trust a dealership to get the job done right…

Oh.. I forgot one other point. Are you breaking in your rotors
correctly?
If you don’t you can cause a buildup of heat that could be the cause of
this. I’m not really sure how to break in your rotors (actually I think
its new pads, but pads are relatively cheap to replace compared to
rotors
so that kinda goes hand in hand).

Rotors can be poor quality, especially factory rotors. Service managers
that I’ve talked to blamed improper heat treating as the cause in many
cases. My rotors warped .020" at about 5,000 miles. This was before my
first tire rotation. I thought it was peculiar that my flywheel also
warped at 5,000 miles. Common denominator? Maybe the same factory
manufactured these components.

That’s good advice. My friend had this problem on his Subaru SVX until
found out that the lug nuts were overtightened. His 220lbs bounding on
the end of a 1 ft long breaker bar would not loosen the lug nuts. Since
he has torqued them properly, the problem has lessened on the same
warped rotors. This advice was also on "Motorweek."
Hope this was the problem!

I’ve never heard of breaking in rotors, so you must be thinking of
pads. For those you do a couple of moderate stops from 35mph or so
until you feel the brakes fade. Then let them cool down and repeat the
process maybe 2 or 3 times more
