Hello all! my 1984 Nissan king cab 2.4 liter carb. engine seems to have
a bad antifreeze smell after I go someplace and return home…..

Before that it had a bad smell like hot metal and it was idling too fast.
Come to find out the tension pully bearings were gone. It finally locked up
on me the pully wore out so the belt to the power steering etc. burnt up.

I got home safely. Then replaced the tension pulley 76.00 and the belt 7.00.

Now i’m worried this smell is something else. Could it be water pump?

How can I check? I look don’t see anything leaking. Also the vehicle has
103,000 thousand on the odometer. I’m the 2nd owner. I bought it from the
original owner. The truck bed is also a little rusty . There is a good size
whole in the bed near the right rear tire well area.

Any tips on these repairs: anti freeze smell, rusted hole in bed and even
a way to get more performance out of this truck. It is a five speed. But
its a little sluggish compared to my ford thunderbird 302 engine. I hear
you can soup this little trucks up. But one think I found out was the parts
for nissan are very expensive.
