'90 300 ZX -Suggestions?

Hello, new to the group and hoping to get some advice. Been in the
market for a 90 or 91 300zx for about 6 weeks now, not much luck finding
a good non-turbo, 2 seater with less than 80,000 miles. My question,
does the superstition of never buing the first model year of a new body
style hold true with these cars? Any major problems the 90 has that the
91 model does not? Also, what year was leather first offered in the
non-turbos?Thanks for any help!

I have a 90 300ZX (bought it new). It has 90K mi and has been as
trouble free as any car I’ve ever owned. AFAIK there are no
differences between a 90 and a 91. My only cautions are that: Nissan
parts when you do need them are a fortune. Unless you’re a 1st class
mechanic don’t try, and don’t let your typical gas station mechanic
try, to do anything but the simplest maintenance operation. If you’re
gonna drive it the way it was meant to be driven expect to put in a
clutch about every 30K miles. If it snows where you are, leave it in
the garage until the roads are dry.

The only thing I know that changed from 90 to 91 was the climate control
and the addition of the hamburger on the front.  There is talk of a badly
machined cylinder on some of the 90s too – check out http://www.twinturbo.com and
search the forum for more info.

Not really a difference at all. Nissan engineers did it right the
first time around! Not much to worry about. As far as leather, I thought
it was ALWAYS offered on NA’s (but could be tough to find, granted…)
As for not being able to find one, keep looking :)

    I found my 300ZXTT via classifieds2000.com. Saw a lot of non-turbo
models, various years there. Actually, it was really tough to find a
    turbo.

    Good luck,

    Alex

I suggest going to a junkyard and find yourself one.  You may laugh, but the
Toyota dealership wanted $245 for an OEM digital clock for a ’88 Toyota pick-up.
I went to the local junkyard and got one for $25.
