96 Maxima SE keyless door entry remote

I bought a 96 Maxima SE used that didn’t come with the keyless door entry
remote control.

Now, I want to install the keyless door entry remote feature into my 96
Maxima SE.  Has anyone done this before?  If so, what do I need?  Should
I leave this to the dealer?  Anyone know about how much it cost or even
if dealer offer this service?

I guess I can also go out and get a car alarm with the keyless entry
feature, but I don’t want an alarm.  I prefer to have the keyless entry
feature only.

thx.

you should go to the dealer and see if you can just buy the remotes and
program them to your system, I work at a dealer in the Warranty Claims dept
and the SE model should be equipped with the keyless entry system already.
they should be able to program them there too.

The keyless entry system on the 95+ is integrated into the alarm system.
So you’d get an alarm as well, even with the factory system.  But the
system is deeply integrated into the Body Control Module (non-engine
computer) of the Maxima.  For example, there are two data networks
(redundant system) running from the BCM to Local Control Modules at the
doors.  It is not a simple 12v wired system.  So unless a non-remote car
comes prewired, I’d bet your out of luck as far as an OEM system goes.  It
might be real exzpensive to retrofit.  In that case, I’d go with an
    aftermarket system.

Now, maybe you’re talking about the remote lock keypad-based system on the
doors…  The 95+ Maximae don’t have that as an option.  Last offered on
    the 94s.

Oops… sorry about that Steve… I meant to follow-up instead of
    reply…

Is there a way to check if my car is pre-wired?  I did notice that in the
fuse box under the hood on the passenger side, there is a slot for a
relay for "Keyless2/Hazard"  Is this for the keyless entry system?  There
is no relay there and no relay connector either, just wires.  Does that
mean my car is not pre-wirted?

    Thx

    No prob…  Here’s the reply I emailed:

It’s hard to say, ’cause everything is pretty well hidden behind panels and
such.  The Remote Control Unit is located in the front passenger side of
the trunk on the outside wall…  (two connectors, a 6 conductor connector
and the antenna wire from the remote antenna in the back glass) maybe you
could look for that?  Also, there is a relay (6 wires) and trunk opener
actuator (2 wires) near the trunk latch on the trunk half of the latch…
    (not on the lid…)
