Greetings all;
I’m looking at purchasing a 95 Pathfinder. My question to you all is
what are the limitations of 4WD high. For example, my 88 Cherokee manual
says to only engage 4WD at speeds of less than 100km/hr, and only on
slippery surfaces. Maximum length of driving is 18kms. I found this
often limiting in my climate (Northern Ontario).
Also, any other offers of info or suggestions are welcome. TIA.
Bill

I have a 91 pathfinder and go into 4wd as long as i am under
20mph. as far as surface goes it does not seem to matter. also
i have driven over 100 miles in 4wd at speeds up to 60mph. i
have not had any problems with the auto locking hubs or any other
parts of the 4wd.
My 97 Pathfinder requires that I change into 4WD at 50 MPH or less and that
I don’t drive at over 50 MPH in 4WD (but why would I want to?).

I normally don’t try to engage 4wd when I’m moving, but the system
should allow me to up to 25mph. Not supposed to ever use it on dry
surfaces, but I use 4wd low to yank my boat out of the water even when
the ramp is dry. I’ve driven 4wd high as fast as 75mph on a snowy
interstate (yes, that shows a lack of adult-level judgement, but felt
safe at the time). Also, I’ve driven 4wd on a slippery interstate for
more than 100 miles. The system appears to be stout and reliable.

I’ve owned three Path’s a 92, 96, and 98 (and in the middle was a 94 Jeep
Grand which was the most troublesome vehicle I’ve EVER owned). You can
shift on the fly, although I’d personally recommend you do that under 20MPH.
You should NOT drive in 4WD on dry roads, only on wet or slick surfaces,
such as off road, or sand, snow etc… Why would you need to drive in 4wd
High? Unless you’re pulling… and that would presumably be in a slick
surface.. otherwise why would you need 4WD.
Re: Re Pathfinder
Dear jackass thanx for the lesson, what were you reading the manuals
again?????
